Established in 1988 in the heart of an Australian forest, Chai Tea stands as a beacon of sustainability and tradition. Nestled within a community/land sharing cooperative, we proudly operate “off the grid,” powered entirely by solar energy. This commitment extends beyond our office—the homes of our dedicated team members also thrive on renewable resources.

Step into our beloved Chai Shed, where the magic unfolds. Here, amidst the tranquil forest surroundings, we blend and hand-package our nine exquisite looseleaf blends with utmost care and devotion. This authentic approach not only preserves the rich flavours of India but also reflects our deep-rooted environmental ethos.

At Chai Tea, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s our way of life. Our packaging choices mirror our values: where possible our packaging is biodegradable. This mindful approach reduces our ecological footprint while ensuring our products reach you with their flavours and aromas intact. Some of our team even boast riding e-bikes to work which have been charged on solar power!

After years of resisting the trend, we finally started producing tea bags once we found the biodegradable material to make a quality bag.  We now use a fabric called Neo-soilon made from non-GMO sugarcane waste.

Beyond environmental stewardship, we champion fair labour practices and sustainable agriculture. Our journey to Sri Lanka was transformative, allowing us firsthand insights into our tea suppliers’ community care, organic farming methods, and the intricate art of tea tasting.  We saw firsthand the medical clinics, pre-school and primary schools for children of the farm. Even recycling, solar power and maternity leave are innovations the farm has provided. These experiences enrich our products’ benefit to you the consumer and the producers.
