Jason McDonald and Timmy Gipson are the founders and farmers of The Great Mississippi Tea Company. (www.greatmsteacompany.com) The Great Mississippi Tea Company produced 4 top award winning teas in the 2015 Tea of the United States Awards. It also won a Silver Medal in the Global Tea Championship in 2017 for its ‘Mississippi Queen’ (green). It went on to win another Silver Medal in the Global Tea Championship in 2018 for its ‘Delta Oolong.’ There tea is featured at The Cultured Cup in Dallas and at the Rare Tea Counter and The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon at Fortnum & Mason’s Picadilly location in London. Over the course of the last 9 years, The Great Mississippi Tea Company has been an industry collaborator with multiple grants for tea research from the USDA in conjunction with research universities. It is committed to data driven, science based tea production in both field and factory. Jason is a co-founder of The United States League of Tea Growers and a past Chairman of American Specialty Tea Alliance. He was also a founding board member of Hawaii Medicinal Tea & Herb Cooperative. Timmy has extensive knowledge in growing, processing, and blending specialty teas for the US and global markets. Both have traveled extensively to gain hands-on experience in order to distill information from various tea producing regions into a working model for US production. They spend their time experimenting with tea growing methods, researching tea growing in various conditions, and developing sustainable business models for tea production on a larger scale for the US.
